Ukrainian Victory at International Bazaar

Ukrainian Victory at International Bazaar

(Ames, Iowa)- Iowa State Univerisity

Ukrainian diaspora in the state of Iowa is not big, but with the creation of the organization called Iowa Ukrainian Students (at Iowa State University) the Ukrainians of Iowa became more united and are gladly sharing their culture and traditions.

International Bazaar is an annual event at Iowa State University. The goal of this event is to share the culture of your country. All interested in participation international organizations prepare posters and presentations about the culture and traditions of their country, tables are full of authentic souvenirs.  The most popular activity of the evening is trying on traditional national attire.

This year 11 organizations participated in International Bazaar, including: India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Nepal, Sri-Lanka, Egypt, China, Japan, Indonesia, etc. Iowa Ukrainian Students took part in International Bazaar for the first time in its history.

Ukrainians in Iowa decided to make their booth in the style of Ukrainian hata with roof made of straw. Moreover, Ukrainians offered three interactive activities: doll-making (motanka), bracelet making (Ukrainian colors-blue and yellow) and trying on Ukrainian national clothes. With great joy we announce that Iowa Ukrainian Students won first prize for best booth 2014 at International Bazaar for displaying Ukrainian culture in various ways during the event. Another small victory for our big country!

Iowa Ukrainian Students together with their members went to celebrate their achievements to Applebee's where IUS was awarded a gift certificate for first prize at International Bazaar.
