Russian Guitar Festival Topic: Ukraine

Not all Iowans realize, but Iowa City is the “mecca” of the Russian seven-string guitar revival. This year, our 9th festival IARGUS 2015 (International Annual Russian Guitar Seminar and Festival) has a special topic — UKRAINE! Since the seven-string guitar is related to Ukrainian traditional instruments –torban, bandura, and kobza — we are thrilled to feature in our concerts the magnificent Ukrainian musicians, Taras Kompanichenko and Danylo Pertsov from Kiev, and Julian Kytasty from New York. In addition, our Gala Concert at the Englert will feature fiery Russian-Gypsy songs and dances, guitar music by Ukrainian composers, and the best of Yiddish songs.
