Amnesty International demands to investigate attacks on March for women's rights in Ukraine

The Ukrainian office of human rights organization Amnesty International urges police to investigate cases of the attacks on the Marches for women's rights that took place all over Ukraine on March 8.

According to the statement published on the website of the organization on March 9, it is claimed that the partakers of the marches aimed against violence and discrimination of women were attacked at least in four Ukrainian cities.

Five people suffered in Kyiv: two women were doused in brilliant green and beaten up, pepper gas was used against Bohdan Novak, the journalist and one more participant of the march and the posters with the slogans of the march were taken from some partakers by force.

In Uzhorod the attackers doused paint at the partakers of the march and one of the women got a chemical eye burn.

Nobody suffered in Lviv during the attack at the march as the police succeeded to detain few persons from the group that attacked.

Also, the reports on the attacks came from Mariupol.

'We are extremely concerned by the open aggression against the partakers of the public marches for the women's rights and even more by the inability of the police in a few cities at once to guarantee the security and order during the peaceful gatherings', Oksana Pokalchuk, the Head of the Ukrainian office of Amnesty International claimed.

Amnesty International Ukraine appeals to the Ukrainian law enforcers with a demand to immediately hold the investigation of all cases the attacks and publicly report on the results.
