Golden Knights parachutist injured in Chicago Air & Water Show dies
An Army Golden Knight who was injured during Chicago’s Air & Water Show has died, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed.
Sgt. 1st Class Corey Hood, 32, died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital Sunday afternoon.
Hood was hospitalized Saturday after a collision with 29-year-old Timmy Holland, an elite diver with the Navy Leap Frogs.
Holland’s parents told WGN that their son was diving at about 120 miles per hour when he attempted to open his parachute when the two collided.
After the collision, Hood struck a high-rise and plummeted to the ground.
Hood was from Cincinnati Ohio. He has been with the Army since 2001 and has been with the Golden Knights for four years, Army Golden Knights spokeswoman Donna Dixon.
Holland remains hospitalized with a broken leg.
